2012 October - Electricity connected

At the beginning of October, an electrician came from Debark to do the wiring and electrical socket installation in the new classroom. The school was closed for one day while the work was done. The following morning Kate was keen to show the children their first film of the new academic year. Unfortunately, there was a power cut that day!

Power cuts are frequent in Dib Bahir. However, in the dry season they are not usually very prolonged. The next day the power returned, and the children were able to watch television.

The school has a good selection of children's programmes and films on DVD. The schoolchildren enjoy Kidsongs, Balamory, Bob the Builder, Teletubbies, and many other programmes, including those with Ethiopian singing and dancing. They love Lion King, Peter Pan, How to Train your Dragon and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The Grade 1s will soon be introduced to Harry Potter!

If you wish to send a children's programme or film on DVD, please Contact Kate first to check whether the school has it already. Some of the school's films are on poor-quality pirated discs bought in Gondar years ago, so in these cases new DVDs would be much appreciated.
